Tired
Today was basically a 12 hour crash course in everything Hong Kong. I haven’t the energy to upload pictures, and tomorrow we head out to Macau. Hopefully that leg of the trip will be a bit more restful, but today was full of some very cool things. More / Pics to come.
Hong Kong Island
On the main HK island now after walking around the harbor. The haze is pretty intense, but the view is still pretty amazing. Mad hot outside, but it’s a nice change from the cold.
Top of my wishlist is definitely an iPod with a camera or an iPhone. I’d really like to be able to upload crap on the go.
After this short break at a dessert shop, we’re catching a ride with Christina’s cousin to the big Buddha.
Our Christmas Eve dinner. Vic was so happy with it she burst into clapping when it got to the table.
But really, Korean McDonalds has nothing on HK McDonalds. Korean McDonalds has cabbage and soy sauce on their burges. My burger tonight tasted like America.
So we’ve arrived at GeoHome Hostel, our home for Christmas. Hong Kong thus far has consisted of a huge airport, a stark contrast in temperature to Korea, an annoying kid on the bus, and a billion people everywhere. Our hostel is small and hard to find, but it seems to be run by really nice people. The room, as you can see, leaves a bit to be desired, but it’ll do.
Beijing was definitely an interesting experience, for the ~50 minutes I was there. It’s the first airport I’ve ever been to that transfers have to go through customs again. The structure of the building was a bit awe inspiring as well, the main terminal is a massive singular room.
Now, we’re headed off to explore, find some food and maybe take a few more pictures. Tomorrow we’re meeting up with Christina and headed to see the largest Buddha in Hong Kong, or the world. I don’t know. I guess it’s big or something.
Landed
I’m in Hong Kong now, walking In the airport. Not sure which is huger, Beijing airport or HK. Hopefully will be in hostel soon.
Icheon airport is amazing. The place is huge and remarkably clean. Security is far more efficient than in the U.S., it took about a minute to get through it and customs.
Not so amazing is Tumblr’s ability to import the RSS feed from Flickr for my images tagged ‘to:tumblr’. That is to say, it won’t do it.
Winter Vacation 09 - 01
December 23rd, 5:45pm
Leaving Janghowon now. I’ve decided to try out Tumblr, though I’m not sure how it will handle posts when I don’t have internet. I’m hoping it wil just queue up anything I post while offline.
For those that don’t know, our itenerary is Seoul > Hong Kong (4 days) > Beijing (4 days) > back to Korea. Our plane leaves Beijing 9 hours in to the new year, so our plan is to be awake and enjoying China until the second we have to leave. Vic and I bought eachother Gameboy DSi’s for Christmas, and so far I’ve been enjoying it a lot more than my old PSP. Between that and my newfound ebook reader for iPod (Stanza + Song of Ice and Fire = Win), I think I’ll be set as far as traveling entertainment goes.
Ok time to see what happens when I push ‘Post’.
— That didn’t work.
We’re in Icheon now, at Hotel Icheon Airport. The hotel isn’t too shabby, they picked us up from the airport and the room is nice and big. We had dinner at a little bar, cheap Cass (Korean Bud) and some Dong Khas (Fried Chciken with some kind of BBQ sauce on it). Stopped by a convience store on the way back and they had Whatchamacallits, so that was win.
Waking up at 9am tomorrow, plane leaves at 1pm. Next post will be from Hong Kong or the airport if anything is worth posting from there.
Just calm down, have a drink of OH MY GOD
